ORGATEX stair nosing profiles: Safety for your employees
In production and assembly, things often have to move quickly. Accidents in the workplace happen quickly and are particularly common during routine tasks. Stair nosing profile offers safety for your company and also has the advantage that the stair edges wear out less quickly and damage is prevented.
What are stair nosing profiles?
Stair nosing profiles are a Stair edge protection, which ensures that you and your employees can use the stairs in your company safely. The edges of the stairs are covered by the profiles, providing not only a visual enhancement but, above all, a secure grip. A stair nosing profile is adjusted in length to the dimensions of your stairs, ensuring the stair nosing is optimally protected and covered. The profiles are available in silver or black, for example.
A variant of the stair nosing profile is the Stair profile, which covers the front area of the step without extending beyond the stair angle. Take a look at our stair nosing profiles and compare the different designs. We'd be happy to advise you.
Danger source stairs: safety first
According to figures from the industrial employers’ liability insurance associations, around 45,000 accidents occurred in Germany in 2021 on and at Stairs nearly 700 of these accidents resulted in permanent physical injuries, and two people were killed. Accidents involving stairs have also been occurring more frequently in private households in recent years. In Germany, between 1,000 and 3,500 people die each year as a result of falling down stairs. By comparison, almost 2,700 people died in road traffic accidents in 2022 (German Society for Trauma Surgery).
Common causes of work accidents on stairs are:
- Shoes without sufficient profile
- Contamination on the stairs, such as oil, grease, liquid
- slippery steps due to incorrect cleaning
- missing handrails on the walls
- objects left on the stairs
- missing or inadequate lighting
- Carrying objects on the stairs
- Haste and carelessness when using the stairs
According to statistics, the top and bottom tiers are particularly dangerous Stair steps, because this is where most accidents occur. While the lowest step has a low fall height, a fall from the highest step exerts enormous forces on the human body, which can result in serious injuries such as traumatic brain injury, broken bones, or sprains.
Little things can make a big difference and Security is particularly important in everyday routines both at home and at work. Not only structural defects, such as missing handrails or railings on the walls, can lead to falls, but also slippery steps. Especially in the cold and wet seasons, such as autumn and winter, stairs quickly become a hazard because wet soles can't find any grip on the steps.
One solution to improve this problem is stair nosing profiles. These consist of aluminum and glass-fiber-reinforced plastic and are attached to the steps of your stairs with screws or mounting adhesive. The advantage of stair nosing profiles is their improved slip resistance, thus preventing accidents caused by falls.
Stair nosing profiles for indoor and outdoor use
Stair steps are particularly frequently used in industrial settings. This causes wear and tear on the steps, and outdoor staircases are also exposed to the elements. Stair nosings wear out and break: the stairs are no longer safe.
A stair edge protector not only provides a non-slip surface for secure grip on every step, but also prevents the danger of broken treads from the outset. Stair edge profiles from ORGATEX are extremely wear-resistant and suitable for high frequency use of the stairs - and of course both indoors and Outside Indoors, they are attached using adhesive and/or screws. If stair nosing profiles are to be installed outdoors on rust-covered stairs, they are attached to the stair nosings using stainless steel spring anchors.
For particularly dark areas, such as poorly illuminated staircases, our luminescent stair nosing profiles are suitable, which not only provide a safe Edge protection but also make steps and angles clearly visible. To match this, we also offer a luminescent marking which makes danger areas visible even in low light.
Variants of our stair nosing profiles
The requirement for a stair edge profile is to protect the Edge against corrosion and ensuring slip resistance on the stair treads. The frequent and intensive use of stairs, both indoors and outdoors, places special demands on the material.
Our stair nosing profiles therefore offer a selection of particularly robust versions for gluing and screwing. The stair nosing is made of aluminum and glass fiber reinforced plastic, while the profiles provide secure hold.
